Srirangapatnam is a very unusual town, geographically. It is an 'island' which is surrounded by the Cauvery river which splits up when it reaches the town and converges back again. In the background of the left side picture, you can see the minarets of the Jama Masjid. The town was the capital during Tipu Sultan's rule.
Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple
This temple is reason why the town is name Srirangapatnam. The deity in the temple is of Lord Vishnu reclining on the serpant Adisesha. The sculpture is made on a brilliant black stone.
Jama Masjid
The Jama Masjid was built by Tipu Sultan. The 2 minarets can be viewed from miles away.
Summer Palace - Darya Daulat Bagh
This was the summer palace of the Tipu Sultan.m It is small 2 storied palace with beautiful mural paintings. The balconies have intricate carvings. Unfortunately, this is not visible from outside as the palace is covered to protect the mural paintings. The palace is surrounded by lush green garden which is called the Darya Daulat Bagh.
Summer Palace - Mural Painting
The complete walls of the palace are covered with mural paintings that depict Tipu's victories at battle. Photography is not allowed inside the palace, but, I snuck in this picture with a zoom shot from outside.
Gumbaz
The Gumbaz which is 2 kms from the palace contains the tombs of Hyder Ali, his wife and Tipu sultan. The Gumbaz is surrounded by a garden.
