Anantha Padmanaba Swamy Temple
This temple is one of the most revered temples by Vaishnavites. It contains a idol of Lord Vishnu resting on the Snake Anantha. The temple also has beautiful sculptures, musical columns and excellent mural paintings of dasavatar.
Padmanaba Swamy
Photography is not permitted inside the temple. Here is a picture of the idol from a poster. The idol is visible in 3 portions as there are 2 columns in the middle.
Puthen Malige Palace and Museum
At last a palace which is big. The Puthen Malige Palace is next to the Padmanabha Swamy temple. The wood work, art works, paintings and other exhibits (which includes thrones made of ivory and another of crystal) are breath taking. A must see place. The heirs of the Royal family still live in the complex.
Legislative Assembly
The new legislative assembly at Trivandrum. On the background is the trade mark pagoda like structure on the roof of the secretariate building.
Chitra Art Gallery
This insignificant looking bilding contains the finest paintings in India. The Ravi Verma paintings on display in this Gallery are mind blowing. The difference of seeing it in real as against posters is startling. Besides Ravi Varma's paintings, there are also paintings of his brother C. Raja Raja Varma and Roeriechs. A must see place.
Napier Museum
The Napier museum is in the heart of the city. It contains art work from the Varma period and also art works from other countries gifted to the kings. It is in the same complex as the Chitra art gallery. The complex also contains other museums, a zoo and a biology garden.
